When breezes stir the tender blades of grass Like gentle fingers idly running through A maiden's golden tresses, then to pass And play between the twilight trees, it's true How wonderful it lifts the heart in you On blissful summer evenings when the hush Embraces dreams and cares seems far and few When scarlet poppies quiver in the lush And sunwarmed fields in evening's crimson flush. While savouring each brand new, precious day We realise we need not race or rush And may enjoy life's calm and gentle way. I don't remember where I was and yet Such times are just too cherished to forget

Katriona,
And what a cherished poem, Katriona! Your words are stirring! The beautifully constructed lines tell of two worlds: the one outside yourself, and the one within. Both are rather amazing!

Katriona,
You have composed a beautifully written sonnet. I am not familiar with this type. I know English sonnets and that is about it. Great write, enjoyed!

Thank you Lisa, there are three main types I would say, the English, Petrarchan (Italian) and Spenserian, the latter called after Edward Spenser the great English poet. They all have different rhyming schemes, but in addition, with the Spenserian sonnet you are supposed to inadvertently explain the theme you are describing. Not sure if I have managed to do this, but anyway, I am recalling a long past summer day and missing it by trying to describe what is in my memory of that precious day because we are all so busy Katriona

Nenette, sometimes I dream in iambic pentameter ! Da Dum. da DUM, da Dum, da Dum, da DUM goes my heart beat, however, contrary to the other types of sonnets, this one should not have this rhythm I am told ! Thanks for stopping by and paying attention to this. Katriona Dear kat, all those types of sonnets are simply your territories... with or without the iambic meters however, you stand out as a poet diva, lol... you're nature's best! a charming, graceful gift no less.. hugggs! :0
