Hello guys, "Cherish The Child" is another old poem of mine…It was partially published in my local newspaper’s Sunday magazine back in 1992. At that time, my sister and I had an art/poetry show in a local art gallery. My sister is the artist. She painted her interpretations of about a dozen of my poems. The show went well. I hope you all like the poem...[/b] CHERISH THE CHILD
Cherish the child whose mother cradles him to her bosom as she reads him his favorite story.
Pray for the child who is pushed away when all they wanted was to be held.
Cherish the child who holds tightly to her father’s hand as she crosses the street.
Pray for the child who is always left alone and is never shown love or any kind of affection.
Cherish the child who runs wild and free in the sunshine and who jumps in big rain puddles with their new boots on.
Pray for the child who lives in oblique darkness and whose shoes have more holes than they have cloth.
Cherish the child who is encouraged to use their voice and imagination.
Pray for the child who is always silenced and has never known the warmth of kindness.
Cherish the child who will never know violence and pain from those they love
Pray for the child who will only know violence and pain from those they try to love.
Cherish the child.
