Hello Echoes...This poem best expresses how I feel about emerging from a very tumultuous 2010 and embracing the glorious light of 2011...hope you all like it
THE URGENCY
My hands are raw from clawing at the arms of those trying desperately to hold and keep me down.
I will myself to defeat this coward embedded deep inside me and struggle to resist the urgent urge to cower from those longing to suffocate and drown me.
No longer will I allow myself to be held down by the malicious hands of anything or anyone.
From the clutches pulling me under, I struggle against and, finally, break free.
I pray I become stronger than the frail depiction of the woman I am today.
As I rise to the surface, I swallow the sickening taste of self-doubt wedged in the thick of my throat and will myself to savor essence of life again.

Lisa, I am so glad I stopped by before going to bed. I have always loved this poem by you and it was great to read it again! This is a slightly different version than the one I read on you other site, but I like it these lines speak to my soul: "As I rise to the surface, I swallow the sickening taste of self-doubt wedged in the thick of my throat and will myself to savor the essence of life again."

a very well-crafted poem Lisa it shows the beauty of strength and inner will. I feel empowered after it thanks for these passages: "I will myself to defeat this coward embedded deep inside me and struggle to resist the urgent urge to cower from those longing to suffocate and drown me. No longer will I allow myself to be held down by the malicious hands of anything or anyone. From the clutches pulling me under, I struggle against and, finally, break free."
