Hello All I came across this poem while searching the site and thought I would bring it up for you all to read again...I do not think I have read this poem since 2005 OTHER SIDE
I sense snapping jaws of weighted darkness trying, relentlessly to devour the essence of my fatigued soul. Its wretched arms squeeze tightly around my weakened body longing to grasp the lasts breaths from me. I twist and try to run but fall deeper into its greedy pits and sink into the belly of its entrapment. Its hands are cold and thieving. Desiring to possess the whole of who I am as it craves all I have ever been. It scratches and claws trying to pull me down to where it can steal my precious life. I am almost smothering. I struggle and resist praying I can remember how to turn the key to set my soul free. Mercifully, I find that little part of me in time which loosens this vise. And push myself against its will, breaking through the darkness before me and embrace the glorious light waiting for me on the other side. ©2004 Lisa Arnold

Whew.
So, of course, I love the tone and the images that you've cast in this poem. I love the darkness and your form and linebreaks are great as well.
The subject works well, too.
Great work.
