Let your faith in God sustain you as another new day starts. Pray that it will protect you from guns, knives and poison darts.
You may think I'm being funny and yet this should give you a chill. Because God's not there every moment and mankind for sure has time to kill.
And that's something we do efficiently in oh so many ways. So, if God should be away a sec, well, you'd better count your days.
We kill for land, we kill for gold or maybe just to take a life. I might kill you for your wallet or simply so I can do your wife.
Throughout the years we have enjoyed turning death into a game. For fame I'll likely do you in though I don't even know your name.
Now you might think this is blasphemous and that I'm just being sick. But will faith serve, my friend, to stay alive or send you to Heaven quick!

Deep and even provocating (in a positive way) and it gives pain to the heart to realize that you did speak the full truth - facts are such! A read to ponder about. Thanks Mike! May Faith always help you! Ulla xx

A number of people appear to have read the piece and no offense to them intended. But you're the only one so far with the heart and courage to comment, pro or con. This is a controversial subject, esp. at this time of year. I had a prologue but it was personal and lengthy so I took it out. This poem actually evolved from a major argument with my wife and then took on a life of its own. Originally the issue was my mother-in-law; 88, lives alone, falling problem, dangerous furniture, fireplace, hard floor in the room where she spends 90% of her time. I've suggested a quadcane or walker and fall-proofing the room as much as possible. My wife spoke to her Mom who rejected all of this because "she has faith in God". OK, that's sweet and uplifting but also dangerous and possibly quite hurtful or even fatal. Anyway, that was my reason for this poem! Heaven Help Us All, Mike

"Let your faith in God sustain you as another new day starts. Pray that it will protect you from guns, knives and poison darts."
I believe that God helps those who believe only so far as they are worthy. And those are the people who establish themselves as being of worth and who strive actively to look out for themselves, for, as it is said:
"E assomiglio [la sfortuna] a uno di questi fiumi rovinosi che, quando s’adirano, allagano e piani, ruinano gli arberi e gli edifizii, lievono da questa parte terreno, pongono da quell’altra: ... E benché sieno così fatti, non resta però che li uomini, quando sono tempi quieti, non vi potessino fare provvedimenti e con ripari e argini, in modo che crescendo poi, o egli andrebbano per uno canale, o l’impeto loro non sarebbe né sì licenzioso né sì dannoso." - Machiavelli, The Prince (Cap XXIV)
So, trust your god. But lock your car. God would've done the same.

Showing faith my friend but also some common sense and prudence. As is also said, "God helps those who help themselves."
Take care, Mike
