Snowflakes had fluttered to the ground And settled softly all around White as an eiderdown quilt of feather Floating upon the bright purple heather Bare now after King Winter's hand Stripped the Highlands from colours grand To transform the trees in bright finesse And silver stars of gracefulness Yet here it is cold though dapples of gold Spill through the air and morning enfolds In amethyst glory that warms and spills Over the frosty crowns of the hills Revealing icy lakes that lie Like glittering jewels beneath the sky Twinkling in rosy mist that will cling Till bluebells cast their spell in spring (Picture by Conmike in flickr.com)

Beautiful picture and poem. Nice to have you back to write of Nature in a style filled with imagery and feeling. But egad, Winter is coming soon, snow and ice, brr! Pretty yes but oh so very cold! Happy Holidays, Mike PS - The above hug is not simply a sign of friendship. It is also meant to warm you upon those frigid Winter days!

lovely poem, great imagry - sounds like Scotland in the Autumn - have stayed in a crofters cottage in the highlands in the autumn - and it sounds like this - but no mention of sheep and I was over run with them - so maybe ..........wherever it was it sounds nice ...

Katriona....I love the rhyme in this one, slightly different for you, line to line. Just exquisite visions of a place that seems like heaven on earth. Your own legacy, the way that you see the world! Loved it as always Huggs-Jan
