Sour Milk
harsh cold wind cutting through the rot
radio tunes fill empty room black and white 50’s TV show set to mute
smell of loss lingering in the hallway dim bulbs shield reality's truth
bent carton holds sour milk, day-old donut resting on folded napkin has lost it's taste
faded red tea kettle whistles on hot plate trembling hand pours boiling water in favorite sports figure mug
used teabag stirred slowly with just a little bit of sugar a turkey on rye or ham sandwich would be ever so nice second hand on three
big hand ticking down toward seven
fragile locks on doors and windows won't fend off intruders doubt any such invasion would ever occur
what would the thieves take? a day-old donut, used teabag or sour milk?
©2021 Lisa Arnold Hi guys, I am pretty sure "Sour MIlk" will be included in my new collection

I like the title and easy flow of this write
hunger, desolation, fear and aloneness rings true in this brilliant piece
