In between the heartbeats of a breathless Summer play Lies a silken continuity that has so much to say Of what has been and what will be, and sighs of in between So many dreaming pieces of so many shades of green, There are whispers trapped in whispers of reverberating rain Like those tip tap trailing tentacles upon a window pane That trace themselves beneath the sun, with rainbow spattered smiles, Or dance like ballerinas down bright terracotta tiles.
Then alleyways of cobblestones perspire into the air And Summer rain is gone, as if it never had been there While in every darkened doorway, shadows melt themselves away As the sun claims their oases for the kingdom of the day, Then with church chime Sunday resonance, come echoes on the breeze As Summer leaves ring out their song, adrift upon the trees Like Arab Dhows upon the seas, or Barques upon the main Those rat a plan reminders of rebirth sail forth again.
With the pages still aflutter and the lantern’s light turned low The evening paints sublimely on the sleeping Summer’s glow For even in the darkness there are colours still awake Just like camera obscura’s, and the pictures that they make, And in each deeply breathing colour there is so much more to paint Though the edges of night’s rainbow grow forever vague and faint As the silhouettes of early morn glow faintly through the blue Like a dream that’s creeping closer, although still it’s not quite you…

I love how your poems interplay between nature and romance Keith "Like a dream that's creeping closer, although still it's not quite you", now who else but you my friend could write like that ? And those alleyways of cobblestones that perspire into air I know very well from my carefree childhood days of summer play in old Stirling town. Such a gracious and captivating poem of great beauty. Katriona
