A bird perched on a wooden cross between the rhyme of sun and shade Until the moon surpassed the sun, oblivious of the changes made From song to song, from gold to grey, it sang before it flew away Into tomorrow’s welcome arms, and then back into yesterday, Where evening’s whispers promise much, a precious smile, a tender touch And even more they promise you those feelings that you want so much, From silver through church window sky, came rainbow glass magnificence To paint each climbing moment in it’s spire of holy prominence.
A grasshopper chirped on the hill, so unaware of all the world Though yet it knew it’s music well, and played as every note unfurled From moments when the moon shone through it’s cloud enveloped ghostly glow To paint the label on the cross that looked up to the heaven’s flow, As Prayers unwound upon the ground, in pools of sacrificial red To ask for sweet forgiveness just once more before the night is dead, Then echoed from a chapel door, somewhere so very far away On wondrous angel wings of love, the words a loving son would say.
A girl slept by an empty cave, bathed in the comfort that it gave, And in her hand she clutched a palm, protecting all she loved from harm, Within her dreams she danced and sang, for all her new beginnings rang Like bells across the mist fringed showers, a symbol of the newborn powers That walked again upon the earth, so much of life, so much of worth, As in the shadow of the cross there is no gain, and yet no loss Just many shades of love and peace, of echoes that will never cease Until the message paints each soul in colours that restore them whole…

A really seasonal piece Keith, your stanzas excellent in their flow telling a most important message, your style in this piece is also perfect, the poem flowed from the start too finish, great job my friend, your pen never disappoints your readers. Merry Christmas.

I just started Dante's Divine Comedy, and I got to say your piece here has the same feel for life that his seems to have. A beautiful story based on a story we all have heard... but never quite with this imagery... Wonderfully told....
