Gently kissed by the mists of a thousand years The book of lost promises and sleeping cares That was wrapped up in mystic millennium rain Slowly opens and flutters it’s pages again, Then it’s words drift forlornly like whisper soft wind On occasion some passages are underpinned Through the hearts and the minds of whoever they touch For some hearts wait so long, and some minds need so much.
While the hourglass somersaults ticking off time The book keeps on creating it’s mesmeric rhyme And sometimes the tip-tap of clandestine showers Bring back poems so remembered from far sleeping hours When time was a bracelet of tinkling charms That jingled its way through eternity’s calms, Like a weary sailed ship in the still of the night Braiding shadowed remembrances meant for the light.
Yet on certain occasions the book rests a while And it’s pages shine far, like a sleeping child’s smile, Until somewhere a poem tumbles out as a dream And is carried aloft on a morning sunbeam To whoever needs comfort from life’s seeping pain And to all who need laughter to dance once again, For although we need sleep as the night’s tide grows near With the book by the bedside, there’s nothing to fear…
