Susan’s Story
By Janice Marie
Eight year old Susan has a story ,
That she would like to tell.
It’s all about a rainy, slushy day,
That she fell down the well.
Susan lived on a farm,
On the edge of a small town.
When she slipped and fell in the well,
No body was around.
Papa was in the fields,
Planting all the crops.
Mama happened to be away,
At a store called Tops.
Luckily for Susan,
The well was not to deep,
So when she fell into it,
Only to her waist did it seep.
Papa came home from the fields,
No one was around.
Expecting to have some lunch,
Susan could not be found.
Stepping outside he called,
Worried he stood with a frown.
In the silence as he stood,
He faintly heard a song.
It was a song Susan learned,
While attending bible class.
So sweetly she sang,
As peacefully she sat.
For she knew papa,
Would be coming home soon.
For he always did come in,
For lunch was always at noon
Papa followed the sound,
Of his daughters sweet voice.
Over to the well he walked,
There was no other choice.
He didn’t understand ,
Why she was so calm.
Singing her sweet song,
When no one was around.
After he had gotten her back up,
He could tell,
Checking her over carefully,
Convinced that all was well.
She stood there smiling,
Her clothes dirty and torn.
Not a tear on her little face,
Nor was she forlorn.
Taking her by the hand,
He wondered in his mind.
How his little girl could fall,
Down a well, and come out fine.
When she was all cleaned up,
Papa sat her on his lap.
For he had to ask her why,
She was not really upset.
With her eyes full of love,
She looked up at him.
Saying,”Papa,
I don’t know where to begin.”
“When I slipped into the well,
I was very afraid.
But an angel came to me,
Sat with me and stayed.”
“The angel started to sing ,
Telling me to sing along,
That you would be here,
To help me before long.”
“So we sat together,
She held my hand.
We sang a lot of songs,
Some over and over again”.
“She never left,
Until you came to help me,
Then she smiled and waved goodbye,
That is why I didn’t have any tears.”
Papa could not believe,
What she just said,
But by the look on her face,
Made him very glad.
God sends his angels,
To help us with our lives,
Help us deal with unhappiness,
All of our strife.
Remember that He sends his angels,
The next time you need a friend.
That he has been sending them,
Since this world has began.
