A Marine Comes Home


I wait patiently
as I look out the window
watching for his plane.

Brought a few of his things,
some belongings to cheer him
and to finally welcome him home.

So many long years
filled with worry and fright,
not knowing what was going on.

Living with the knowledge
that my child could be dead,
perhaps killed and I wasn't told yet.

Wondering if they'd come
to my door with drawn faces
and those final, so sad words,

But my Marine had survived,
now Iraq was behind him and
my son was coming home at last.

I wait patiently
as I look out the window
watching for his plane...

and as I see it my eyes fill with tears!
