OLD MAN SITS ON BALCONY
tall elm trees shade hot afternoon sun
old man sits on front balcony
petting fat Calico cat
passing time and hoping
for a letter from
a friend, but the
postman walks
by and
waves
like always there’s no letter today,
his family and friends have all moved
away, old man whispers, “Where
have all the years gone?” The
cat purrs and curls up
in the old man’s
lap, he pets
her and
smiles
