One day, much like any other, Death dropped by. I felt rather silly because I answered the knock on my door in my underwear and unshaven.
And there was Death but no grinning skull or scythe. Actually he was a good looking guy if a bit dark and he was wearing an Armani suit and Testoni shoes. But I knew who he was immediately and I instinctively shut the door right in his smiling face.
As I turned around after I did that, he was behind me. "Bad manners!", he said, "And God told me you were nice." "Nobody wants to meet you, give me a break!", I replied. "Well, you have a point, few people do.", Death stated.
So, we talked for awhile over coffee and a plate of doughnuts. He seemed to favor sugar ones, perhaps he needed sweetening. And I tried every argument I could think of to talk him out of taking me with him but sadly I found that none of them worked.
Finally, he looked at me and nodded slightly toward the door. "C'mon he said, stop stalling, it's past time for you to go!" And in desperation I tried one last thing, I just said "No!" to him.
And Death looked me right in the eyes and down into my soul and said, "You know something, I really like you, you got nerve!" "So, I'm going to give you a break and wait a little bit longer."
Then he vanished right before my astonished but happy eyes leaving a half a cup of coffee and a partially eaten doughnut.
I feel more at ease now but at night I find myself wondering...
when will he by dropping by to finish his meal and me with it?
