He saw his body lying there on the ground. And he saw the blood as it pooled all around.
He saw the young boy who'd tried to take his life, the one with the mean grin and a switchblade knife.
His fifteen dollars this lad would be spending. For that paltry sum was his whole world ending?
Yet anger did not rule his soul, he wasn't all that mad. Mostly as he looked down what he felt was very sad.
He thought now of his family and all he'd never see. And he marveled at the gatherings where he could no more be.
He looked up and he saw it, a fast approaching light. It was brilliant, it was blinding and, by God, it felt so right.
But then a voice, his mother's, echoed through his head. Soft and gentle but commanding, she said "Son, you're not yet dead!"
His father's strong hands upon him were then pushing him away as he said "You know we love you but with us you must not stay!"
The doctors wondered how he'd lived but all he felt was glad. And they smiled as he opened up his eyes to say "Thank you Mom and Dad!"

Mike, I admire this wonderful poem. It is so sad and tragic but such a deep and divine picture of love and really you have done an excellent job writing this. Thanks my friend, may you be blessed. Ulla xx

;D my friends! A bit "under the weather" this last week. Picked up something while visiting my mother-in-law at the hospital. She's now in a nursing home for rehab before returning to her home. It's been a rough week for Joanne and I. I haven't been around this site as much as usual. But I hope you and yours are doing well and thanks for the kind comments! Take care, Mike

Thank you both! I write what comes into my mind and somehow I thought of this and the story unfolded. Glad you two liked it! Namaste, Mike
