Dedication - This is for my daughter, Alyssa. Once a beautiful child and now a beautiful woman. But always and forever filling my life not just with love but also with wonder. I'll always be grateful for the love and wonder you give, bless you dear one!
When my daughter was little, she talked to Bugs Bunny. Back then I thought it was cute and a tiny bit funny.
But as I grow older and older, I've started to ponder. And imaginary friends completely fill me with wonder.
Just think of someone cool always there by your side. Someone who'd have your back while on this long, crazy ride.
What if Wonder Woman was my sister as I screamed out from the pain? Why, she'd shoot down the bad guys from her invisible plane!
What if Dr. Strange was my brother as I languished in sorrow? We could enter another dimension to a better tomorrow!
Lots of fine people as my sisters and brothers. Not only these two for there are so many others.
Heroes and heroines to save me from strife. Imaginary friends I could call on to light up my life!

Thank you my dear friend! I was talking about "imaginary friends" and not real people as you observed. If I were to pick a few real people... George Carlin for his clarity of wit in seeing what was around him Gordon Lightfoot for the pure poetry of his brilliant song writing Sam Elliot for his great voice and manly, tough screen presence Mother Teresa for her grace, love and deepest devotion to people Martin Luther King and the Kennedy brothers for wishing peace Adam Sandler because he makes me laugh and looks like my son And I'm sure if I took the time there's many, many others but for now I'll stop and move on to checking out more poem comments. Take care, Mike

Wonderful poem Mike, I simply love it! The list of people I admire would be long, but I have this one imaginary friend to whom I seem to talk a lot in thoughts, with him I share the beauty I see, the joy I feel, the tears I cry and the fears that make me feel cold. And in fact he takes me out of gloom, flies with me to the moon and is a spiritual company I would not want to be without. So your poem has touched my inside, thank you! Be happy and blessed, dear Friend. Ulla xx

Be happy and blessed as well dear lady! I don't have an imaginary friend I talk too. When things got tough, I used to say that "I'm the father of a Marine" so I should be tough as well. Now and then I still use that. Once in a great while I talk to my Dad which I find amusing and I'm sure he finds immensely hilarious. Though perhaps it is also touching for both of us. We didn't get along well when he was alive. At least not until the very final few years of his life. He wasn't a giving person and therefore not a great father. But he was tough in his way, he took no "bullshit" from anyone, and he was a hard worker. I hope I at least got those things from him. And so I ask him for advice now and then on how to "hang tough" and persevere.
Take care, Mike

Sweet, Michael... I always want to think that kids are inside all of us... nice to know that you still recognize the wonderfulness of imagination.

Sweet, Michael... I always want to think that kids are inside all of us... nice to know that you still recognize the wonderfulness of imagination. Imagination, yes my friend. But even beyond that! The wonderment of youth, the sweet beliefs in fairies, Santa Claus, dragons, etc. Back when all that was as real as taxes, war, a cup of coffee or using the toilet. In the days when everything was new, joyous, pure and filled with exhilaration. Long before the doldrums of becoming an adult and losing some of that precious magic. Absolutely, keep as much of that child inside you as you can because we all desperately need that! Take care, Mike

me and popeye enjoyed this immensely ............... we're hitting the JD together while the missus and Olive are out on the town. Popeye actually put a tune to it (with a naval twang) and as he sang we did our own version of 'the sailor's hornpipe'. More JD now - but not with spinach (yuk!) ...................... pizza and coleslaw for me !!!

The humor is refreshing and put a smile on my face at a time when one was sorely needed so thanks. I so wish we could share some drinks, pizza and coleslaw, forget the spinach! Pizza and coleslaw sounds like an odd combination but I love both so what the Hell, why not! I guess for me it would have to be Dr. Strange. I need to get away for awhile and have some R and R in a peaceful place. So if he could find a tranquil dimension with warm breezes, lapping waves and a Mai Tai or two, I'd be right there with him! Hang tough, Mike

An absolute joy to read Michael, certainly descriptive, it reminds in a way that rrw has started writing, but you have your own way of descriptive poetry, I really enjoyed this piece and know how you feel about family.

Johan To compare me to rrw I take as a high compliment so thank you! I love his poems, his absolute gift for imagery and wording. So, for you to say that I remind you of him just warms my heart! Family is something I cherish and try to keep close as are my good friends. Thanks for enjoying this and understanding where it comes from. Namaste, Mike
