Mimi Pantelones

Author's Introduction - I hesitated before putting this in here because it's quite personal in that it would mean more to my family than to readers. But it's so cute that I decided to go ahead anyway. This is one of the endearing names my daughter-in-law calls my newborn grandson. She says that "mimi" means small, I guess like mini. So, this would mean "small pants" or perhaps "little britches". I saw him yesterday and this poem came to me after I returned home. Hope you all enjoy it!

You're new in town
aren't you hombre?

Yes, I just rode in
from Mexico on
my rocking horse.

Have I heard of
you stranger,
what's your
handle dude?

They call me
Mimi Pantelones,
perhaps you
know the name?

You are the great
Mimi Pantelones,
the young son of
Grande Pantelones?

Yes, so you have
heard of me then?

Of course I have,
your father was
once the toughest man
in the whole, wild West!

But now that he has
grown a bit older
and slower at the draw,
you have stepped up
to fill his mighty shoes.

That's right my friend,
today his shoes and
I hope someday to
also grow into his pants.

Then I too will assume
the feared title of
Grande Pantelones!

But until that great day,
I will allow this sweet senora
to softly sing me to sleep.

Oh yes, as proud as the parents of this sweet Mimi Pantalones, is his grandpa (his grandparents of course) and the imagery of this charming little man riding his rocking horse really really made my day!
