My Winter Woods
There above, the fir tree boughs Now laden with glittering snow, They make the woods a magic place Everything lined with icy lace.
Dead fern and withered grassy blade They're with a frosty blanket laid. Tranquil, just no sound is heard No squirrels chirp, no song of bird.
The prints of paws or hoof of deer Their tracks may abruptly disappear. If I'm quiet I will get a chance To see them with a fleeting glance.
I leave the path and hope to find Shy creatures trail that’s left behind, White hills and pale skies now blend And heavy clouds still more snow send.
The gray looks and short-lighted days, Life seems a little lost in haze. This silent world though offers much I contemplate this special touch.

PS, really nice feel for the material here. The rhyme and the rhythm really work well to capture that fantasay like air of the piece. Nice use of picture too.

Cold, a bit stark and yet beautiful, peaceful and serene. A pretty picture and a fine poem to accompany it. Once again nicely done!
Take care, Mike

i bet you wrote this whilst reclining in the log cabin (in the picture), with rosy cheeks, a blanket wrapped around you, and a huge mug of real hot chocolate laced with brandy.

Your winter woods are charming and heart warming Ulla. I look upon winter as a hibernating time when all the things I don't do in summer get done, like all the good books I've bought and harboured. Anyway there are winter day and there are winter days and this one you describe makes us want the winter to last not disappear. Lovely words from a sweet lady. Katriona

Isn't it strange that I never feel the coldness of snow and ice because my love for these Winter views seems to keep me warm. So far we still wait for real Winter in the lower regions, while our Alps struggle with enormous loads and tragic avalanches all the time. Thank you Mike, always happy to read your comment. Ulla xx

Wowh, thanks for this special comment Rusty, I will surely remember it SHOULD this white Winter finally join us here. While I wait for it I can still enjoy the hot chocolate with brandy, can't I (smile). Ulla xx

In deed Katriona, I want this Winter to come - at last - and then last a while -- Except for my walks I feel exactly the same about time of hibernation and I am lucky to be retired and just enjoy it completely! Thank you for a sweet comment. Love, Ulla xx

Ahhhh..... I never really experienced winter truly. Last time I could remember a winter worth talking about would have been when I was a student in Kingston-upon-Hull. I remember dark nights when I had to trek through the snow to the comp labs for printing out my poetry. Köszönöm!

Üdvözlettel és köszönöm! Thank you CR for and commenting! Glad you have a glimpse of Winter by this memory. This season seems to be exceptional, by means of no snow and ice down in the valleys so far. Ulla xx
