One day I woke and realized that so much of life's a sham. And so I lay there wondering just who I really am.
For we all wear so many masks and I know this to be true. So while I ponder who I am, just who in the Hell are you?
It's twisted, convoluted, it's so crazy and it's bendy. We wear costumes to disguise ourselves, what's in now and what is trendy.
And we posture and we preen all day as we fool those close to us. Yet when they become confused, upset, we wonder why they fuss.
But when we are the ones deceived, we feel so hurt inside. So many days there are we've screamed and so many nights we've cried.
Someone once said that life's a stage and we're all actors bloke. But I see it more like George Carlin did, it's just a sad, bad joke!

we have to stare at life right on the face to unpeel the masks and all, mike... not too easy but this wonderful gift shows us the way, somehow... a powerful, undaunting reminder... amazing! huggs

Recently peeled the masks off my best friend and his wife and really didn't like what was under them. Now very worried that my "tough-love" reaction may have deeply hurt them. Hope they are smart and together enough to deal with it and still value me as a friend, we'll see! Take care, Mike

Real friends can cope with a face bare of mask, Mike and can handle critique or disappointment. You won't lose your friend and for sure he won't lose you as his friend. Perhaps you have left something of great value to him with your frank words. Good write about heavy thoughts, thank you. Ulla xx

My wife has contacted his a few times, they are separated. I think there's some pain, a touch of betrayal and maybe even a little shame. I left Sam another message and a poem today. I hope he can respond now or at some point soon when he feels able to. We've been friends since our teens so my "tough love" should not end it! Mike

This is very good, and mostly true to boot, I like the story and so appreciate the unforced rhyme... this was indeed a pleasure... BG

BG Don't believe we've met before so my pleasure to make your acquaintance. And thank you for , enjoying and the nice compliment. If you look at my comments, I'm going through a tough time as a friend "dragged me" into his marital issues. So a number of poems of late have been generated from this sad situation. Yes, not always true but sadly too often so my new friend! Take care, Mike
