He fired his gun in the air
because after all it was there
and we all know that
shooting is fun.
Celebrating a new and fine year,
he let go a cheer
as the bullet flew
out of his gun.
But what goes up must come down
and this sorry clown
never once thought
of that fact.
And his lack of a brain
was for sure to cause pain
on account of
this one simple act.
The boy sat on his lawn
and stifled a yawn
as he watched
those fireworks flying.
Young and naive,
there was no way he'd believe
that seconds later
he might be dying.
The round entered his head
but Diego's not dead
as he just won't
give up the fight.
And I have to cry,
I can't understand why
a small child can't
enjoy a fine night.
What was he thinking,
perhaps he'd been drinking,
this fool who thinks
a gun is a toy?
This man ought to do time
for his most stupid crime
and my heart
goes out to this boy!

Author's Note - And once again it's a sad one! I get very tired of doing this type of social commentary but this child needs the truth spoken on his behalf. And "we" need to be aware, forewarned is forearmed. It isn't bad enough there are evil people out there. It isn't bad enough there are mentally ill people out there. There are also those who might just take your life out of their complete stupidity. This boy was lucky, the same thing happened some time ago to another child who did die. My heart and many prayers go out to Diego Duran. Diego lives in the small town of Ruskin, Florida. Sounds quiet, peaceful, pretty and safe right? Well folks, not so! He was sitting, watching fireworks on New Years Eve when a bullet entered his head. Diego is 12 yrs-old, close to the age of my grandson. I hate this so much and the total idiocy of whoever did it! Please pray for him!
