If I could just live in my dreams, I'd sleep all day, blot out the screams.
Of women raped and soldiers dying, of old folks beaten and children crying.
For sometimes it's too much to take and life seems like a sad mistake.
In a world where death comes hard though easy and there's a lot that seems so cheap and sleazy.
My dreams are soft, quite warm and good and in them scenes play out as they should.
Sometimes a nightmare will intrude which I admit is sad and rude.
But most of my dreams are pleasant and kind, they ease my soul and free my mind.
Unburdened I walk down each road without the baggage of life's load.
Without the strife, the pain and sorrow, then waking to a new tomorrow.
I feel refreshed and redefined, finding the happiness which for so long I've pined.
Wishing this world had a sweeter side so days spent here weren't an insane ride.
In my dreams I find the peace I've prayed for and so I'll sleep now to dream some more!

sorry, I missed this one Mike...
I love this, great opening and ending...if only we could have peace every minute of our lives...if only there were no more wars or violence towards others...a very powerful write
thanks for posting, hope you have a great day!

I know Mike, we tend to take all the problems of the earth to bed with us be they worldly or personally. And we only want happy dreams of course so make us sleep well. You've managed to put down my thoughts too here in this poignant and heart-rending poem. We can't all save the world but so important to take time to voice our opinion. A wonderful poem for us all to share. Heart2Heart

thanks for posting, hope you have a great day! No apology needed, I'm just so conceited and head-swollen that I need at least one comment for every poem! Ah well, at least I admit to my foibles! I made my own mistakes admittedly but I've also seen a lot in 63 years. There's too much violence and sadness in this world of ours! I wish there was more kindness and peace! Take care, Mike

A wonderful poem for us all to share. Heart2Heart Ah, another lady as sweet as Ulla and that dear soul is a compliment! So very, as Andrew would say, spot on my friend. And I've been in Social Work and Health Care for over 41 years so what do I see everyday. It's no wonder my wife calls me pessimistic! I'm not pessimistic, I'm just tired and sad with all this violence, evil and stupidity around me. My dreams are usually softer and kinder and a Hell of a lot more fun. And we can't save the world but we can try our best. Maybe if enough of us do that at will at least help some! Meanwhile I'll do what I can in reality and cherish the touch of sanity that strangely at times shows up more in dreams than in the world we've created! Namaste, Mike

Another profound poem pointing out what is fact to the caring souls. Met so many people in my long life who go to sleep without caring for or about anything and sometimes I am tempted to think they lead a much easier life. But caring people cannot wipe out the facts and even try to find solution for the world's problems. I wish you and all good nights and happy dreams - and thank you for caring... Ulla xx

such a deep and heartfelt gift that comes fro the gut, mike... i can resonate with the shards and roses of life ( i do counseling) with the unique, lyrical approach of your theme... much enjoyed!

You do counseling, who knew? But you certainly have the good, kind heart for it! I've done Social Work and Health Care (not counseling per say but similar) for 41 years. In a couple of weeks I begin a new, part-time job caring for the elderly. Shards and roses, well said. Thanks for some fine comments! Namaste, Mike
