As he called himself a Christian, he lived such a devout life. Why he even prayed in church each day before he beat his wife.
He became a deacon of his faith and spread his thoughts to others, believing rightly in his soul that all men inside were brothers.
Yet he sat in judgment on them because he felt he had the might. He knew he was appointed to teach them wrong from right.
But he himself was faulted though this was so hard to see. He put up a front and acted just as pious as could be.
And the life he lived seemed normal though we know that it was not. He pondered and he marveled about how holy he had got.
But as he looked down so haughtily and said "I'm quite a winner!", his God was watching from above and knew this saint to be a sinner.

Often I write what I feel and in reference to what affects my life. This piece is sadly about my best friend who I've known for about 45 years since we were in college. He presently has some very sad and serious marital problems and I'm finding out a lot about his relationship, actions and nature that I wish I hadn't learned. This is exaggerated a bit, such as he doesn't beat his wife all the time. But he has hit her and she has hit him and things are not going well. One major thing that really irks me is the sham condition of how he acts. He's bombarded me with religious tracts when in reality I'm starting to feel he's less of a Christian than I am. It deeply saddens me! I Could Use A Drink, Bailey's With Me My Friend?, Mike PS - OK, Bailey's has no foam! How about a good beer and some Irish Cream as well? Still trying to find humor though I hardly feel like doing so.

A lot of us call ourselves Christian... God and the person knows whether it is the truth. Nice poem.

This shows deep into your heart Mike and the hurt you feel by discovering some unpleasant facts can be understood. Now it will be yourself proving to the struggling friend who a real friend and by real sense a Christian is found. I know you will do the perfect right thing because you are one to help. Though sad, a very good poem thank you. Ulla xx
