He'd been overseas when his son was born. It had made him feel lost and so forlorn.
Sure he'd been happy and yet he'd cried. Inside of him then a small part had died.
And all those years his child had grown he'd been away with a heart that now was stone.
To fight and kill you became as cold as ice because inside you felt not quite right or nice.
But he'd done what he'd been trained to do. He'd been a fine Marine as I'm telling you.
Yet the time had come and he'd no longer roam. Now it was his day to go back home.
He took off his boots and put down his gun though the war wasn't over, lost or won.
But he was out and he felt so good. Soon he'd hold his boy as a father should!
Michael "They're Coming Home!" Gallatin
Author's Note - This poem has a special and deep meaning for me. My son was in the Marines for eight years and saw duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back, got married and began a home with his wife. Now they're expecting a boy in December! So, this poem isn't exactly him and yet it is too. I'm dedicating this to all our men and women deployed in the armed forces who are away from their loved ones. May they have a safe return home and may it be soon! God bless them!

Hi It is not just another job. Glad you're son is out of it safe and sound. Without willing young men who stand on the wall the wolf would soon be at every ones door. Farkas1

The world is praying for this my Friend, that they all will be called home and this soon, so to avoid many more losing their lives. Tragic facts but a wonderful poem from your heart, thank you. Ulla xx

Oh my, Mike...first of all congrats, heard the news! We are having number 4 grandchild in April Second, I can relate to this one because Art was gone when my Kate Nel was born. He was in basic training and he could not come home. You see, although he had been prior military and was in Viet Nam (caught Malaria and almost died) he reinlisted while I was pregnant with Kate. We are a strong, military family, son to son. This one really hit home with me and I loved the easy rhyme
