The turkeys among us are very shaken. Now there's turkey burgers and turkey bacon.
They used to be scared on only one day. But today they shout, "C'mon folks, no way!"
"Once you only ate us on Thanksgiving." "Now you won't even let us go on living!"
"From your knives there's no relief!" "What ever happened to where's the beef?"
"When you take that bottle and pull the cork, why can't you drink that wine with pork?"
"Or for something that's surely finger-lickin', Colonel Sanders says to eat a chicken."
"It's bad enough now as Thanksgiving draws near!" "Do you know what it's like to always live in fear?"
"People, it's high time to give us a break." "Forget the damn turkey, please eat some cake!"

And then Andrew, many Americans also eat turkey for Christmas! Poor singled out and greedily consumed bird. But I think you're right mentioning steak because beef is still the meat of choice for most people. And I believe thus also the most often eaten. And I would eat a well done, not fatty, good cut of steak with a decent barbecue sauce. But for me the choice is shrimp all the way! I'll eat them any way they're done though not all that crazy about cold ones in cocktail sauce. Give me shrimp over steak any day! Take care, Mike

For me it is so interesting to discover other customs and your Thanksgiving meal is something I never had. It sounds yummy though. Our way of Thanksgiving is very different, for we celebrate during the whole harvest month and that means we do have a meal with all the harvested vegetables and even venison, each day another choice. At least once a week we "have to" (it's rather much liked) invite someone to dinner, who him/herself cannot afford or somebody lonely, some forgotten old person etc. Therefore we do not have a particular Thanksgiving meal. I like and enjoy your poem Mike and wish you and yours happy Thanksgiving! Ulla xx

Yes I agree that poor turkey needs a break, although they say the meat is healthy for us and we should prefer it to others. :-) Great fun poem Mike, you always cheer us up and that's what we need. Heart2Heart
