There was a faerie with a slightly torn wing
So extremely miserable that she couldn’t sing,
She just fluttered along in a half hearted way
To watch the other faeries as they all play,
She wondered if she would ever get well
So she’d wander back down into Dingly Dell,
She landed on a toadstool to sit for a while
Then she met a good witch with an engaging smile.
They talked for a while beneath Dingly Dell’s trees
As the good witch took heed of the poor faeries pleas,
And then took her to where all her magic herbs grow
Then she fixed her a poultice that made her wing glow,
She told her to wash it softly in Dingly Dell stream
Then her wing would repair itself just like a dream,
So the faerie said thank you then went on her way
Rejoicing to all that she encountered through the day.
Her poor wing worked so perfectly well once again
She played with the sunlight and splashed in the rain ,
She met an old lady that walked upon the old green
Who had such kind eyes, that she could never be mean,
So she flew alongside her then sprinkled faerie dust
That made the old lady shake off her aches and her pains
Then she kissed her on the forehead to shake off ages dust
As they parted the old one thanked her for all her magic gains.
Then the faerie with both working wings happily wandered again
With no sign of earlier discomfort and indeed no real need to explain,
She fluttered through the forest and she found all of her faerie friends
And to everyone she met who needed help her magic dust she sends,
She washed her face in the Dingly Dell stream and wandered on her way
She had so many songs to sing, and poems that she would write and say,
And to all that she met she would chat for a while for a few moments rest
For of all of the woodland faeries, she was most definitely the very best.
