Echoes Of My Soul A Poets Worst Nightmare.

Echoes is a forum owned by administrator Lisa Arnold is made to look like it offers the poet everything, but it offers the poet absolutely nothing. The forum is definetly not for the serious poet, if you just want to go and post your poetry for constant praise and not honest critique, then go to echoes. The site also offers no poetic resources for the writer and the poet, but it offers games and a few discusions boards. Echoes is actually an amusement park for children who gives out awards like its candy, not for poetic merit. it seems that everyone who posts on that site wins and award and is called the greatest writer in the world. Then I guess my 5 year old daughter would win the Dickinson Award if it was up to Echoes. They show not one ounce of professionalism, experience, leadership or that they know how to run a forum that will help the emerging poet. If I could give them a rating below a 1 I would, maybe a -1. But I do not recommend them to anyone who takes their craft seriously, infact to anyone at all.

If u ask me about it...bad or good, its publicity, just like in hollywood where controversies make people talk about a celebrity, at least he/she is always in the limelight of every talk.

and for a much wider, logical view...I would say, look who's talking? are they reliable sources?

Dear ill informed distinguished writer,

I am a moderator and a meber of sevral forums..I go by the name ZEB..The Pen and Quill being one of them..Echoes of my Soul being another..Since I joined the Pen and Quill..there were two posts after mine in the week that followed..it's the most unvisited site I have ever joined..And the most cold and unwelcoming place..Granted Brian gave me an award for my 1st poem..which is fine as it is a published piece and has recieved awards in the past..Still there is no friendliness on that site..The reason for this being the egos on it..Everyone there has no time to comment on others work..They just want praise and recognition for themselves while not giving any..I have to point that out to you..

I do not agree with your assesment of Echoes in slightest..There are a lot of excellent writers there..The fact they are friendly and honest is an endearing factor for a forum to have..It is very busy and recieves a high influx of new members daily..That are quite happy to post and return to do so gladly (which is not the case on P&Q)..In relation to your claim of nobody critiquing and everyone mollycoddling each other..well that just isn't true..in fact there is section devoted to evaluation and critique..Which I and sevral others help poets improve and discuss their work..Feel free to check it out..It's called poetic evaluation..

Seeing as though you are a distinguished writer you may not need to read the tips..But I feel you may be interseted to do so..especially this part..in relation to your use of punctuation..pay close attention to the bold highlights...Oh and have a nice day..

Comma Abuse

Commas in the wrong places can break a sentence into illogical segments or confuse readers with unnecessary and unexpected pauses.

1. Don't use a comma to separate the subject from the verb.
An eighteen-year old in California, is now considered an adult. (incorrect)
The most important attribute of a ball player, is quick reflex actions. (incorrect)

2. Don't put a comma between the two verbs or verb phrases in a compound predicate.

We laid out our music and snacks, and began to study. (incorrect)
I turned the corner, and ran smack into a patrol car. (incorrect)

3. Don't put a comma between the two nouns, noun phrases, or noun clauses in a compound subject or compound object.

The music teacher from your high school, and the football coach from mine are married. (incorrect: compound subject)
Jeff told me that the job was still available, and that the manager wanted to interview me. (incorrect: compound object)

4. Don't put a comma after the main clause when a dependent (subordinate) clause follows it (except for cases of extreme contrast).

A. She was late for class, because her alarm clock was broken. (incorrect)
B. The cat scratched at the door, while I was eating. (incorrect)
C. She was still quite upset, although she had won the Oscar. (correct: extreme contrast)

This kind of thing appals me! Some say there is no such thing as bad publicity. I disagree.

Reviews such as this are innately corrupt. They are written by those unqualified in anything but their preference for a site/owner and they are allowed to promote their disgraceful opinions without challenge.

They fit neatly into the pockets of siteowners who engage in crazy ratings wars. These people sabotage each others' sites, "steal" members and engage in behaviour that if it were anywhere other than on the net would end up in court!

NONE of this is about honour or honesty, poetry or heart. It disgusts me and i would NEVER take a reviewer of this calibre seriously ... *implodes*

well, to answer ur question..I found that item in one of the survey/rating sites where I am a member, I think Echoes is too at no. 5

Top 100 Poetry Vote For Us ...is their logo and her site is at no. 16

P.S. The last time I read her reviews (?) before that one on Echoes, she was hitting hard on the then top-rating Heartfelt Poerty (I moderate there), I think she just replaced Heartfelt Poetry with Echoes on the headlines, and I read the same thing...

Hello Everyone,

Yes, we knew all about this, this was written almost a year ago, we have lost some members I am sure, but we have also gained over 100 new members like all of you wonderful people since it was written and it did not hurt our standings one bit, but we feel everyone is entitled to their opinion, that's life, some people will like you and others will not, I have a strong belief in myself and this forum and nothing will ever cause me to waiver in my belief, and yes I will own up to early mistakes made with this forum, but we think we have made vast improvements since that was written and we thank you for the support Echoes family!

And just so you all know I do not own this site, this is a free site, Proboards owns this site, lol

Thanks for posting this chitcyn, I have often wondered if I should or not and I shyed away from doing so, but I am glad it's out in the open and now people can make up their own minds one way or the other...

I think this is so useless, I paid as about as much attention to this when I first read it months ago about as much as I do movie reviews. I will go see whatever movie I want and I will belong to the poetry forum of my choosing. This is a great forum, and I am PROUD to belong...Keep us the great work Echoes!

That's the spirit!

Everyone commits mistakes and experience we call that, and we learn and grow by that, even a hundred folds...ur right Lisa. It's the rising from the fall that counts not the number of times we've fallen.

I also believe on what Zeb had told about the forum that was being lifted up at the expense of other forums, and have read the same criticisms at Heartfelt Poetry, then, by this so called reviewer.

U know when a tree is fruit-studded, expect a lot will hit it.

I decided to bring this about so our members will be aware of it and likewise, stand for what they believe is right. I know a lot on here would comment on this to give this forum the moral support. Thanks Kristi for ur views and also of Shell's.

We cannot hide things in the internet. And we always welcome what others have to say about us. I admire your stand on this, Lisa. This is our poets' forum and nobody can take it away from us not even a biased review like that.

This forum's credibility will always stay in tact.
