Autumn, friend, when you're gone I'll be crying
For, Autumn, you are so satisfying.
I didn'y plan the seasons and the times
Nor did I buy earth's glorious rhymes.
But somehow God gave them me
And sent all Autumn's beauties free.
Now all I ever have to do
Is to see these good times through
Without an effort on my part
Or a pang within my heart.
Autumn comes just stealing in
Never telling where it's been.
But it always brings the brightest sun
And for me is sure to please!
But I guess the trees
Feel they've been cheated,
For their nuts and leaves and fruit are soon depleted.
Trees that held their fruits so firm and tight
Lose them often over night.
Grass and flowers and trees bright and green
Soon must lose their precious sheen
Turning toward a somber tint
Before their days on earth are spent.
But thanks to Him who made it all.
E're this foliage has to fall
It will turn to heavenly hues,
Depicting such breath-taking views
That we our senses almost lose.
I'm so stunned and amazed
That human eyes could thus gaze
Upon these wonders God be praised
For His near heart stopping spectacle of
All these Autumn days.
