Frank was down to his last few five dollar chips. He'd been playing " Let it ride" for the last hour at the Four Leaf Clover casino and his luck, if you want to call it that, had been disastrous. Two thousand more had been added to his credit cards and he was reaching the limit on most of them.
He slid six chips out onto those three little round spots in front of him in a desperate attempt for one big hit. " Oh God,.......please help me out of this mess ", he silently prayed before picking up the newly dealt three cards. When he picked them up a faint glimmer of hope lifted his bewildered spirits.
The Ace, king and ten of hearts all lined up neatly in his fingers. He held his cards back so the two people sitting beside him could not see them. Now the two cards face down in front of the dealer had his full attention and when the dealer flipped over the queen of hearts the adrenaline really stated pumping through his veins.
He tucked his cards under his chips and tried to remain as calm as possible. " Oh God" , he again silently prayed, " please give me this one big hit. If you give me just this one big hit I promise to quit gambling for good. I'll even enter a gamblers anonymous when I get back home. Please God....I really need this. Oh God please."
The dealer quickly checked with all gamblers at the table to see if anyone wanted to pull their second chip back. Then she reached down to flip over the last remaining card.
Frank's eyes about popped out of his head when he saw that jack of hearts laying beside the queen in front of him. His heart was pounding unbelievably hard and he tried his best to remain calm. He knew the overhead camera's would record every body movement and the last few minutes of film would surely be reviewed.
When the dealer turned over his three cards revealing the royal flush the whole table erupted in emotion. "Royal flush hearts" the dealer called out. Everyone rushed to the table to have a look. "My God, it's been four years since I saw one of those " exclaimed the pit boss. "Everyone remain calm please....when we have a hand like this we must have a review on the film."
When Frank left the Four Leaf Clover his pockets were stuffed with large bills. Paying a thousand to one with thirty dollars in chips on the table amounted to quite a sum. What relief he felt as he waited at the corner for the light to change. Across the street he saw the tempting and inviting lights of the Flamingo, his favorite casino. "I think I'll head on over and play a little black jack before I call it a night " he said to himself while crossing the street.
