Posted this awhile back but seems to make sense to repost it here. Sort of the rocky relationship I've had with God. But aren't all relationships rocky?

Prayer

Have we not suffered long enough, Lord,
To be granted a stay of execution?
How long must we bear the world upon our backs
Before relieved of this painful duty?
What reason have you to submit us to such pain?
What word of love begs hearing in the cracking of the whip?
Our days are too long, too bountiful with grief
To garnish any sense out of your cruelty.
Are our tears not plentiful enough, sincere enough?
Is the sin of being born
Into this world too outrageous
For us to ever find redemption?
You can part a sea,
Breathe a plague on Egypt,
Turn humans into pillars of salt
And yet cannot find the magic
To give us one moment of peace,
One second of love or understanding
In this life we do not own.
