30 Pieces of Silver
by Janice Marie
What would it take for you to give up someone
That you know in your heart had never hurt anyone?
Would thirty pieces of silver be a good price ?
Would this amount of money your conscience surffice?
Could you hand over to a crowd your best friend?
This innocent intelligent and loving man
Could you walk through the crowd up to where he sat
Telling him He is your Lord and kiss him,
Could you betray Him and do that?
How would you feel when they grabbed him
Bound his hands , hit him and on his face spat?
Making him walk all the way to town
How would it feel to love someone and let him down?
Could you stand and watch as they called him names?
Wouldn’t you feel in your heart so ashamed?
Putting a cloak of red crimson on his body
A crown of thorns on his head
Watching as He stood there and silently bled
Struck Him and tortured Him for nothing he had done
The people stood and watched as He stood
Could you stand there and watch knowing you
Had been the one to help bring this man down?
Seeing them make him drag a cross through town
Silently Our Savior struggled up that hill
Never uttering a word to all that looked and stood
Watching his agony as they drove those nails
In His hands and feet
Wouldn’t it make you weep?
How could you ever again live in peace?
I would sooner give up my own life
Then betray someone I loved for any price
There wouldn’t be enough money on this earth
To compare to how much my love for Him is worth
And as He hung upon that cross
He was heard to ask His Father to forgive them
For they knew not what they had done
Hanging the Son of God the Son of Man
