I was so shocked to hear of his loss....abosolutely a terrible loss for many..For those of us, who only brought him into our homes via the media..I for one can say his excitement when he reported politics was palpable....For the NBC family he was almost a family member as he had become the God Father of many who had children..and he was a devout Irish-Catholic....such a sad loss for his family and right before Father's Day......All I can say is that with as great of a man as he was God must have needed him......musie

He was a man true to the spirit of America. A patriot. What was great about him was that we "folk" could believe anything he said about politics and politicians. The only axe he had to grind was for the truth. Few of us can say that we don't make political decisions based heavily on what political ideology we believe in. Russert was a Democrat who didn't let the far right or left stop him from asking the hard questions of all parties. He was a genuine American. The country has lost one of its most noble sons.

I heard of the news that the orchestra played "Somewhere over the Rainbow" at his funeral (strange choice, but oh well) and then when they went outside there was a rainbow in the sky! How cool is that?

Actually it was indeed a double rainbow, if you've never seen one they are an awe inspiring sight....I've heard "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" done at many services...it is appropriate if one believes that's where the soul goes..but anyway, the rendition that was played is not the usual from the "Wizard of Oz" it's a very unusual in that it is sung with a ukalehla.....by the way I am a neighbor of "Dorothy's" LOL....Kansas
