I am as stunned as all of you and I am as happy as alll of you about the arrest...it was a great day for justice!
Lisa, I love the changes you made and these two sections bring it all home fore me:
"for the remainder of their lives they will forever hear the recorded sounds of their son’s last frightened screams for help
all because their son was a young man whose only crime was walking down a dark street while Black"
I know how you feel Brian, it was such a glorious feeling when she announced that there would be a second degree murder charge...I am glad you like those two sections of my poem casue they mean the most to me, thanks for stopping by and thanks for commenting

I am with you Betty and thanks about the changes. I am still working on it, but it is nearing conclsuion, I think

Like all you, my dear friends, I was stunned, shocked and elated and then my happiness turned into sadness as it did for you dear Betty, because I thought of young Trayvon dead before he really had a chance to live and I thought of his poor family who will always want for him and then I thought of the wonderful and heartfelt words you wrote dear Lisa and I prayed...wonderful changes to your poem Lisa! I know the feeling dear Sara, it still has not really set in for me that he the killer has been charged...it is wonderful that so many people feel the same way... on FB and Twitter everyone is talking about this case and the vast majority feel the way we all do...I will never stop speaking up in the face of injustice and I am so glad many people are doing the same thing, thank you for liking the changes to my poem

Lisa, I am so glad that he is behind bars and I screamed YES when it happened and I am so grateful for poets and writers like you that have the courage to speak up and shed light on issues that others wish to keep hidden...it is people like you that make it safe for other Black men to be able to walk down the street with a can of tea and a bag of candy and not be killed for the color of their skin or their attire...AMEN to you my sister and right on for your glorious poem for justice!

Hi Charles, I am worried about him not doing any jail time too, but I believe in the justice system and I believe he will do some time for this horrible crime...thanks or liking the changes and for your kind remarks

I felt the same way, it was a shocker to me, never expected a charge in this case and never expected it to be second degree, should be first degree...anyway I am happy for his family and I hope they get justice and I pray that the killer does not get out on bail because I think he will flee...thank you for your poem Lisa and the changes makes it even more outstanding... I agree Percy, I think he will flee too if he gets out on bond and I am with you about being happy for Trayvon's family...many thanks to you for the kind words about my poem

Hey Lisa, thanks for all of the info and I am with all of you all, I am so elated that justice won out this time and I am waitng to see what the outcome of the trial will be...I am so gald that the poeple of that town kept up the pressure to get justice for Trayvon and I hope they will be there throughout the trial...Lisa, I love the changes to the poem, good job! I agree with all you've said Jay...I saw Trayvon's parents and brother on the Today Show and they are still deeply grieving, it was hard for me to watch his mom speak because her pain is stlll so very raw and when I heard her say that she was elated that her son's killer was behind bars and that Trayvon was finally getting justice, my heart ached for her and her famaily...She also said that her son was murdered because he was Black and becasue he was walking down the street and was racially profiled...that was a powerful interview that brought it all home for me and gave me the incentive to keep writing about this subject...thanks about liking my poem

Justice for Trayvon
death of their son is the death of all of our dear sons
root of hatred runs deep within a fearful mind and soul
self-appointed neighborhood watcher man who thought he was the man
committed the ultimate crime against mankind and took the life of a "suspicious" looking young man
who was wearing a hoodie and who was "armed" with a can of Arizona tea and a bag of Skittles
a life of promise and a kid's dreams of playing football and flying airplanes erased in seconds
a mother, a father forever left grieving for their son’s laughter and loving embrace
for the remainder of their lives they will forever hear the recorded sounds of their son’s last frightened screams for help
all because their son was a young man whose only crime was walking down a dark street while Black
cries of injustice speak louder than the reckless actions of this one lost man
a call for calm has been made to try to quiet the brewing storm
within engulfing winds screams justice for Trayvon
